Novell Meets Needs of Developers, Increases Ease of Development with Access to ActiveX Controls

ActiveX Controls Provide Additional Options, Make It Easier for Developers to Build Networked Solutions for NDS, NetWare

PROVO, Utah -- Sept. 9, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. announced today the availability of ActiveX Controls on the Novell DeveloperNet Web site, providing developers access to additional development tools, such as VB, PowerBuilder, and Delphi, to more easily build networked solutions. ActiveX Controls give developers the ability to choose from a variety of tools for easy integration of custom solutions with NDS (Novell Directory Services) and creation of Intranet Web pages to administer internal network resources.

"The availability of ActiveX Controls simplifies my development of applications that work with Novell technologies and helps me be more productive," said Rustin Klein, Intranet Administrator, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. "Now I can program to NDS in minutes instead of hours. This is another indication that Novell is providing the tools developers need to easily and successfully create applications for NetWare, IntranetWare and NDS."

"We want to put into developers' hands the tools they need to write corporate applications to NDS in the most convenient, simple way possible," said Dave Clare, director of product management in Novell's Java Technologies Group. "ActiveX Controls open the door beyond C-level programming, making it easy to experiment with NDS applications and build administrative utilities, adding power and usability to an already strong product. This is another component in Novell's strategy to increase developers' access to NetWare services, which will soon include Java Beans and ODBC Drivers. Developers will see that Novell provides opportunities to create applications any way they want."

ActiveX Controls can be downloaded free of charge from Novell's DeveloperNet Web site at http://developer.novell.com/rad/sdk. DeveloperNet, Novell's comprehensive developer program, provides developers with the resources and support to build platform independent, network-aware applications.
