Novell Provides Improved Efficiency and Lower Cost of Collaborating for GroupWise
5.2
GroupWise Workflow Professional Is Available Now In Public Beta
PROVO, Utah -- October 1, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. today announced GroupWise
Workflow Professional, an enhanced graphical version of its workflow automation tool, is
available now in public beta. Workflow Professional allows users to streamline and improve the
efficiency of everyday business processes, managing the flow of work within an organization
through the familiar E-mail interface of GroupWise® 5.2.
"Workflow Professional builds on the rock-solid framework of GroupWise, which lets our
customers collaborate instantly and easily across an organization to enhance the way they work
together," said Stewart Nelson, vice president of Novell's Collaboration Services Group. "This
product allows users to focus on adding value to the job at hand, rather than becoming
overwhelmed by administrative tasks associated with sharing information in the workplace."
Ease of Use
Integrated with GroupWise 5.2, Workflow Professional allows users to realize immediate
productivity and makes constructing a workflow as simple as using E-mail. Users simply place
icons on the workflow canvas and draw arrows to assign steps in the workflow to their co-
workers. Workflow authors can also include detailed instructions on completing the task. Users
receive workflow messages through the GroupWise Universal Mailbox when it is time for their
steps to be completed. When the message is opened, a simple dialog box appears with instructions
for completing the task. Once the user indicates the task is completed, WorkFlow Professional
automatically routes the message to the next participants.
Lower Cost of Ownership
The integration of WorkFlow with the GroupWise Universal Mailbox lowers cost of ownership
for companies by eliminating the expense of training end users on a separate application interface.
WorkFlow simply becomes an extension to an already powerful collaboration solution. WorkFlow
Professional also significantly shortens steps in complex business processes to the few seconds it
takes for the workflow message to cross the network to the next participants.
Partnership with FileNet Corporation
GroupWise Workflow Professional is being integrated with GroupWise 5.2 by FileNet under a
strategic partnership with Novell to deliver robust workflow capabilities to GroupWise users.
FileNet specializes in the development of workflow, document imaging and document
management solutions.
