Novell Delivers Improved Business Efficiency and Productivity With GroupWise WorkFlow
Professional
Novell's Integrated Workflow Solution is the First To Automate Both Structured and
Unstructured Work Processes
PROVO, Utah -- December 10, 1997 -- Novell, Inc. today announced
GroupWise
WorkFlow Professional, an enhanced graphical version of its GroupWise WorkFlow automation
tool, is
now shipping. GroupWise WorkFlow Professional improves business productivity by allowing
companies
to create, manage and store information about everyday business processes, which can then be
managed
more effectively and efficiently through the familiar GroupWise interface.
GroupWise WorkFlow integrates workflow into the day to-day business operations of an
organization,
automating a broad spectrum of business applications, from the unstructured sharing of project
information
to the clearly defined process of approving capital expenditure requests. By creating a mechanism
to
structure, process and respond to information in a meaningful and effective way, GroupWise
WorkFlow
improves efficiency and accelerates business decision making.
"The seamless integration between GroupWise WorkFlow and GroupWise E-mail makes it easy
for us to
leverage the power of process automation in our business and for our customers," said Don
Nepveu with
DWS Computer Consultants Inc. "Users' familiarity with GroupWise allows them to quickly learn
how to
create workflows with minimal training and hand-holding, which in turn makes them more willing
to
embrace workflow and get the most out of it."
"By breaking down the barriers between business processes and tools, GroupWise WorkFlow
Professional
allows companies to focus on increasing the value of their key business processes to the bottom
line of the
organization," said Paul Smart, vice president of Novell's Collaboration Services Group.
Ease of Use Means Immediate Productivity
Through tight integration with GroupWise 5.2, GroupWise WorkFlow Professional allows users
to realize
immediate productivity and makes constructing a workflow as simple as using E-mail. Users
simply place
icons on the workflow canvas and draw arrows to assign steps in the workflow to their
co-workers.
Workflow authors can also include detailed instructions on completing the task. Users receive
workflow
messages through the GroupWise Universal Mailbox when it is time for their steps to be
completed. When
the message is opened, a simple dialog box appears with instructions for completing the task.
Once the user
indicates the task is completed, WorkFlow Professional automatically routes the message to the
next
participants.
GroupWise WorkFlow brings much-needed structure to many poorly-defined business processes,
significantly shortening time-consuming steps to the few seconds it takes for the workflow
message to cross
the network to the next participants.
Low Total Cost of Ownership
The integration of WorkFlow with the GroupWise Universal Mailbox lowers cost of ownership
for
companies by eliminating the expense of training end users on a separate application interface.
By building on users' familiarity with popular desktop applications such as E-mail, forms,
document
management and collaboration in a single environment, GroupWise WorkFlow also speeds
adoption and
implementation across the enterprise; workflow simply becomes an extension to an already
powerful
collaboration solution. From an administrative standpoint, GroupWise WorkFlow eases the
burden of
installation, support and administration for IS departments by leveraging the existing IT
infrastructure.
Pricing and Availability
GroupWise WorkFlow Professional works with Windows 95/NT. The product sells for $149.00
per user
when purchased alone, or when purchased with a GroupWise 5.2 license, for an additional $69.00
per user
over the GroupWise 5.2 pricing.
Partnership with FileNet Corporation
GroupWise Workflow Professional is being integrated with GroupWise 5.2 by FileNet under a
strategic
partnership with Novell to deliver robust workflow capabilities to GroupWise users. FileNet
specializes in
the development of workflow and document management solutions.
