Novell Offers Powerful Communication Capabilities in New Small Business Networking Solution

for Small Business 4.11 Includes E-mail; Simplifies Management and Brings Companies Online with Internet Access

PROVO, UT -- January 27, 1998 -- Novell®, Inc. today introduced NetWare® for Small Business 4.11, the second release of its easy-to-use solution for creating small business networks that now includes GroupWise™ 5.2, Novell's award-winning collaboration product for messaging, calendaring and information management. The new product improves business productivity through proven Novell networking and messaging technology, providing companies a collaboration network environment with dial-up Internet access, Web publishing and E-mail communications with employees, customers and partners.

NetWare for Small Business 4.11 helps growing companies work efficiently, enabling multiple users at a site to share applications, files, printers, Internet access and faxing from their computers. NetWare for Small Business also includes both anti-virus and backup solutions that protect users' valuable network information, such as documents and accounting information, and ensure rapid recovery time in the event of hardware problems, data loss or viruses that spread from computer to computer.

"Novell's solution for small business is easy to install and offers a significant value to customers by combining all of the critical networking components that every company needs to stay competitive," said Coleman Barney, director of marketing for the platform services group at Novell. "In addition, NetWare for Small Business 4.11 has fewer hardware requirements and a much lower price than competitive small business offerings."

Internal and External E-mail Communication

NetWare for Small Business 4.11 includes GroupWise 5.2, making it easy for people to work together, send E-mail to co-workers or across the Internet, schedule meetings or collaborate on projects. GroupWise keeps users organized with personal and group calendaring and a Universal Mailbox for E- mail, calendar items, tasks and fax messages.

Access to "The Big Network"

NetWare for Small Business 4.11 enables customers to economically access the wealth of information on the Web with phone line and modem sharing. The product comes with Netscape FastTrack Server for NetWare and Netscape Communicator for Web publishing and new multi-protocol routing for easy dial- up access to online information and resources. With these tools, small businesses can create Web sites for increased visibility on the Internet and communication with employees and new customers.

"Novell really simplifies my business's networking requirements by tying together critical functions such as E-mail, Internet connectivity, faxing, backup and virus protection," said Bill Stewart, partner at Fredericksen& Company. "We initially planned to purchase separate products to achieve the same capabilities, but integrating everything with the Novell platform will cut costs and greatly improve manageability."

Simplified Installation and Administration

Small companies cannot always afford a full-time network manager to install and maintain their network. NetWare for Small Business 4.11 includes a new automated installation process that enables anyone with basic networking experience to install both the network and the E-mail system without difficulty. In addition, NetWare for Small Business 4.11 includes the Novell Easy Administration Tool™ (NEAT), which provides a graphical interface for network management tasks such as E-mail administration and creating, deleting or modifying users, groups or applications. The Novell Application Launcher™ (NAL) automates application management and distribution without requiring a network manager to waste time visiting and customizing each computers' configuration.
