Industry Partners Endorse NetWare for Small Business 4.11 as an Intelligent,
Easy-to-Use
Solution for Small Business Networking
PROVO, Utah March 31, 1998 Novell, Inc., today announced availability
of
NetWare® for Small Business 4.11, an enhanced release of its easy-to-use network server
platform
for small companies. The new product enables businesses to get the most out of their internal
networks and
the Internet by including all of the software needed to run and intelligently grow a network in a
single
software package. NetWare for Small Business is more affordable to own, easier to manage, and
easier to
use than any other network server platform.
NetWare for Small Business extends Novell's strategy to deliver the industry's premiere intelligent
network
server platform to smaller businesses, enabling customers to take advantage of networking
software from
Novell and third parties to efficiently manage their networks. New integrated components of
NetWare for
Small Business 4.11 include Novell's GroupWise 5.2 E-mail and collaboration solution,
Netscape's
FastTrack Web server, Computer Associates' fax, back-up and anti-virus solutions. The
Oracle8
data server will also be in the box within 45 days. These built-in components, combined with
thousands of
third-party computer, peripheral and application products, provide a robust and reliable network
server
platform designed to meet the needs of small businesses.
"Today's small business networking solutions must be as comprehensive as those provided for
large
companies, but they must be cost-effective from an emerging company's standpoint and very easy
to deploy
in the business environment," said Rick Balazs, product line manager in the Platform Services
Group at
Novell. "NetWare for Small Business 4.11 serves as a building block for growing companies. The
product
installs automatically, and the combination of groupware, Internet access and third-party
technologies make
this a convenient solution that can be extended in cost-effective per-user increments as the
business
grows."
Improved Communication and Collaboration
GroupWise 5.2, Novell's premier collaboration product, makes it easier for people to work
together
whether they are sending E-mail, setting up meetings or collaborating on projects. With its broad
range of
Internet standards and enhanced collaboration tools, GroupWise 5.2 allows small companies to
leverage the
Internet for everyday business use and to improve the efficiency of work processes. In addition,
integration
with Novell Directory Services (NDS) and the Novell Easy Administration
Tool
(NEAT) provides a single point of administration through which a GroupWise user account is
automatically created when a user is added to the network.
Industry Partners Support NetWare for Small Business

failure, protecting invaluable corporate data.
- Computer Associates InocuLan 4.0 offers a powerful anti-virus solution designed to protect

business
solution, helps provide an integrated application platform for cost-effective development of
network
computing solutions."
Anyone Can Install NetWare for Small Business
Small companies cannot always afford a full-time network manager to install and maintain their
networks.
NetWare for Small Business 4.11 includes a new automated installation process that enables
anyone with
basic networking experience to install both the network and GroupWise system without difficulty.
In
addition, NetWare for Small Business 4.11 includes the Novell Easy Administration Tool
(NEAT),
which provides a graphical interface for network management tasks such as E-mail administration
and
creating, deleting or modifying users, groups or applications. The Novell Application
Launcher
(NAL) takes full advantage of NDS to automate application management and distribution without
requiring
a network manager to waste time visiting and customizing configuration on each computer.
"With this version of NetWare for Small Business, Novell is providing a solution that is very easy
for small
companies with limited networking knowledge to use," said Mark Irle of Standard Equity
Agency. "In the
past, we had to manage products such as intraNetWare for Small Business and GroupWise
separately,
which took a significant amount of time. With this product, all of the networking functionality is
integrated,
including messaging and Internet connectivity, making it a much more manageable solution. In an
organization this size, our resources are at a premium so manageability and efficiency are
key."
