Novell and Psion Partner to Provide Enterprise Solutions at Spring Comdex '98

GroupWise Scheduling and E-mail Now Available for Psion's Series 5 Handheld Computer

Chicago, IL -- April 20, 1998 -- Novell and Psion have joined forces at Spring Comdex to exhibit the highly-acclaimed groupware features of GroupWise 5.2 and 4.1a on Psion's award-winning handheld computers. Within Novell's partner pavilion, Psion is showcasing the new GroupWise solution for its Series 5 handheld computer, made possible by the recent announcement of The LinkWise Plug-in for Psion's connectivity software, PsiWin 2.1. The plug-in, developed by Advansys Corporation, is a synchronization tool that now enables users to reconcile GroupWise appointments, contacts, notes and tasks with Series 5 handheld computers. By using Psion's POP3 e-mail client, users gain remote access to GroupWise e-mail accounts, allowing them to check messages and reply at their convenience. This new plug-in complements the existing LinkWise 2.0b, designed to provide calendar and email synchronization capabilities for Psion's Series 3c, Series 3a and Siena palmtop computers.

The LinkWise solution now provides additional capabilities to Psion/Novell GroupWise users by integrating a GroupWise C3PO (Custom Third Party Object). Psion users can now initiate a Series 5 synchronization or backup directly from the button bar or 'Tools' menu within the GroupWise 5 32-bit Windows client. C3PO makes synchronization easy by automatically adding two buttons to your GroupWise client button bar and a new Psion Series 5 menu item under the 'Tools' menu.

"LinkWise gives Psion users easy access to their GroupWise information from any location, providing mobile professionals with truly virtual offices, said Tom Rhoton, Director of Product Marketing, Novell, Inc. The Psion Series 5, combined with Novell GroupWise, provides a mobile computing solution that gives businesses a significant tool for ultimate productivity."

With POP3 support, GroupWise 5.2 allows users to remotely dial in and access their email messages from various clients. Series 5 POP3 e-mail access is provided via Psion's Messaging Suite (including e- mail, web browser and send/receive fax software). It is a powerful communications package for the Series 5 that allows advanced e-mail features such as remote inbox control to selectively download messages. Users can choose to retrieve all or just select messages from a POP3 server. For example, individual messages can be prioritized by either size or urgency, making it possible to only access pertinent information and effectively limit online expenses. When it comes time to create or reply to messages, the Series 5's laptop-style keyboard makes it comfortable to type e-mail messages while away from the office.

"We view our strategic relationship with Novell as an opportunity to extend the advantage of GroupWise to the mobile professional. The Series 5 enables immediate access to group calendar, contacts, mail, document management and more. GroupWise users who are out of the office and away from their desktops require a means of making their GroupWise data available at all times. Rather than transporting a heavy laptop, these mobile professionals can use the award-winning Series 5 handheld computer to access data, save time and enhance productivity," comments Ben Cesare, Vice President of Psion Incorporated.
