Novell and Partners Showcase High-Performance Network Solutions on Intel's Pentium II Xeon Processor

Novell, NEC, Oracle and SBT Accounting Demonstrate Network Computing Solutions that Increase End-User Productivity Through Increased Networking Speed

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — June 29, 1998 — As part of Intel's Pentium® II Xeon™ Processor introduction today, Novell and its partners demonstrated how NetWare® 5 and Intel's new processor can work in concert to provide customers with an intelligent network. Running on Intel's new processor, NetWare 5 enables Novell customers to benefit from performance and scalability enhancements, resulting in better access to more up-to-date information. Faster and more reliable access to the most current information available enables companies to make better-informed decisions, which will result in a competitive advantage.

The demonstration featured SBT Executive Series accounting software and the Oracle Discoverer data analysis tool integrated with Oracle8 on NetWare 5 beta 3 running on an NEC Express 5800 Server with four Pentium II Xeon processors. The solutions showed how organizations could compile information about business processes, for example, to quickly produce reports that can analyze the results of hypothetical queries, resulting in improved business process efficiency.

"NetWare 5 has already been acclaimed as a superior server operating system, in terms of performance, reliability and scalability," said Ed McGarr, Novell vice president of product marketing. "Combining the strengths of NetWare 5 with the added speed and scalability of Intel's Pentium II Xeon processor will give our customers a real competitive edge by enabling them to respond more quickly to the dynamics of an increasingly networked marketplace."

"NetWare 5, running on the highly scalable Pentium II Xeon processor for servers, delivers unsurpassed value to business users in the enterprise computing market segment," said John Miner, vice president and general manager, Intel Enterprise Server Group. "These solutions deliver excellent flexibility and versatility, while also providing outstanding price and performance for the customer."

The Pentium II Xeon processor is designed to meet the needs of mid-range and above server and workstation applications. It is based on the same Intel P6 micro-architecture on which the Pentium II processor is based.
