StandbyServer Many-to-One and SnapShotServer for NetWare Dramatically Reduce
Server Downtime, Support Mission-Critical Applications
PROVO, Utah July 14, 1998 Novell, Inc. today announced the shipment
of an
expanded range of high-availability solutions for protecting mission-critical network data in the
event of
hardware and software failures. StandbyServer Many-to-One and SnapShotServer for
NetWare®
address customers' needs for more reliable access to network data and minimal network
downtime.
Available immediately, the products round out Novell's arsenal of diverse high-availability
solutions and
reinforce Novell's reputation for delivering the industry's most reliable information
networks.
Companies in transaction-intensive industries including transportation, finance, media, and
health
services lose literally millions of dollars for every hour their networks are down, making
high-availability
solutions essential to their business success. Novell StandbyServer Many-to-One for NetWare
protects
mission-critical operations as an alternate server that can maintain continuous access to network
applications and data in the event of network failures. SnapShotServer works to improve the
backup
process by enabling customers to back up open files and live databases without affecting server
performance.
"Novell is delivering on its promise to provide fault-tolerant solutions that help eliminate
network
downtime and reduce the total cost of network ownership for customers," said Michael Bryant,
director
of marketing for Novell clustering solutions. "These new high-availability solutions address a
broad
range of customer needs by providing continuous network operation and data availability to
businesses of
all sizes."
One Stop Protection for Multiple Servers
A hardware independent solution, Novell's StandbyServer Many-to-One increases overall
network
reliability by mirroring several mission-critical servers to a single standby machine. If the
hardware or
software crashes, StandbyServer Many-to-One supports network activity on the failed server and
continues to mirror additional servers on the network. Customers using this solution eliminate
significant
hardware costs by alleviating the need for a one-to-one correlation of primary and backup
servers. The
product will appeal to new customers interested in increased network reliability or current
Novell's
StandbyServer customers who are familiar with the technology, but want to minimize the number
of
backup servers on their network. This package also includes SnapShotServer for
facilitating centralized tape back up of multiple servers.
SnapShotServer Provides Real-Time Back-Up
Novell SnapShotServer is a technology that speeds and automates data back up without hindering
performance of the primary server. Working in concert with virtually any backup utility,
SnapShotServer
is ideal for companies that cannot afford to shut down the network for backup operations, or
those
without enough idle time to complete the operation. With SnapShotServer, Novell customers can
completely back up their files in real-time as the technology captures live data in open files or
databases
on the network. SnapShotServer runs on a secondary server to eliminate network performance
hits and
preclude any chance of primary server downtime.
