Reed E. Hundt Appointed to Novell Board of Directors
Former FCC Chairman and Telecommunications Visionary Joins Networking

PROVO, Utah July 21, 1998 Novell, Inc. today named Reed E. Hundt, a
principal of Charles Ross Partners, a telecommunications business planning and policy consulting firm,
and former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to the company's Board of
Directors.

In addition to his role at the Bethesda, Maryland based Charles Ross Partners, Hundt, age 50, serves as
co-chairman of The Forum on Communications and Society at The Aspen Institute. He is also a member
of the board of directors of Allegiance Telecom, Ascend Communications, and Northpoint
Communications. Hundt was chairman of the FCC from 1993 through 1997, and was instrumental in the
implementation of the historic Telecommunications Act of 1996 to promote competition and encourage
the rapid deployment of new telecommunications technologies. He also helped negotiate the World Trade
Organization Telecommunications agreement to open markets in 69 countries to competition and foreign
investment.
Hundt's appointment increases Novell's board representation to seven. In addition to Schmidt and Hundt,
the board includes: John Young as vice chairman, the former president and chief executive officer of
Hewlett-Packard Company; Elaine R. Bond, formerly senior vice president with chief technology officer
responsibilities at Chase Manhattan Bank; Hans-Werner Hector, cofounder and former member of the
advisory board of SAP, AG, Germany; Jack L. Messman, president and CEO of Union Pacific Resources
Group Inc.; Larry W. Sonsini, member of the law firm of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati.
