PROVO, Utah August 18, 1998 Novell®, Inc. today announced an
agreement with NetVision, Inc. to bring single point administration and lower cost of network
ownership
to customers using Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, NT and NetWare® 3 through
synchronization with Novell's industry leading directory service, NDS. This
meta-directory
functionality will be available to customers through the Novell channel in early 1999 and will
include the
next generation of NetVision's Synchronicity product line: Synchronicity for Exchange,
Synchronicity for Notes, Synchronicity for NT and Synchronicity for NetWare 3. The two
companies
also plan to collaborate on the development of future product offerings.
"The solution Novell and NetVision are offering gives customers the ability to synchronize
Novell's NDS
with critical application components like the Lotus Notes/Domino name and address book for a
single,
powerful and comprehensive system," Christopher Stone, Novell senior vice president for
Strategy and
Business Development. "Our strategy continues to be consolidating important network data into
NDS to
provide customers with the flexible, intelligent networking capabilities they demand."
Novell's Synchronicity offering will ensure that customers can choose the best technology for
their
business needs without the concern of introducing additional management costs. The products do
this by
integrating existing application and operating system directory information into NDS to
consolidate and
simplify both management and access. The result is a single point of administration for multiple
network
resources that lowers network ownership costs while preserving the freedom for organizations to
choose
the applications and associated network operating systems they deem appropriate for their
networks. In
addition, Novell's NDS for NT will integrate with Synchronicity for Exchange and will coexist
with the
rest of the Synchronicity products.
The enabling technology that the Synchronicity products are built on is NetVision's Global Event
Services, which monitors, launches, and communicates network events on a global basis
across
an entire network. Novell earlier this month announced a minority investment in NetVision as
part of its
Internet Equity Fund initiative to spur development of solutions that take advantage of NetWare
and
NDS.
"We're pleased to be working with Novell to enhance Synchronicity's integration with the
industry's
leading directory service, NDS ," said Todd Lawson, president of NetVision. "We, along with
Novell, are
committed to pioneering multi-vendor integration solutions in order to make the directory the
core of the
business computing environment. "
Pricing and Availability
The Novell version of the Synchronicity product line will be available in early 1999. Pricing has
not been
determined.
