Tour Focuses on Major Customer-Driven Concerns Related to Y2K, Internet
Performance and Security
SAN FRANCISCO September 14, 1998 Networking leader
Novell, Inc. today turned up the volume for NetWare® 5, announcing its largest ever
customer-driven tour, stopping in 50 U.S. and Canadian cities. Novell tour partner IBM Corp. is
lending significant support, demonstrating Novell's powerful NetWare 5 platform on its
Netfinity servers. Following on the unprecedented success of Novell's pre-launch NetWare 5
CNE (Certified NetWare Engineer) Bootcamps, the tour stems from an overwhelming public
demand for information on Novell's new directory-enabled server operating system. The
NetWare 5 tour will help address pressing customer challenges related to Year 2000-readiness, as
well as Internet performance and security. Pre-launch Bootcamps regarding NetWare 5 sold out
across the country with over 2500 NetWare Engineers being trained in Novell's largest pre-
launch training effort ever.
Beginning October 9, 1998 (September 16 in Canada), the tour will allow customers and industry
partners to experience Novell's powerful new platform for running directory-based applications.
Attendees will gain a critical competitive edge by understanding how the advanced directory
technology in NetWare 5 will help them address new challenges present in an Internet-enabled
worldwide marketplace. Co-sponsored in the United States by IBM Netfinity and NetWare Users
International (NUI), local events will also provide valuable advice on Internet security and taking
networks safely into the Year 2000.
NetWare 5 tour meetings will equip IT managers with effective strategies for network upgrades
and critical information about the pure IP- and directory-based capabilities of NetWare 5. The
events will empower Novell industry partners with expertise needed to provide value-added
customer solutions for today's Internetworking transition and Year 2000 deadlines. All attendees
will be eligible for a free IBM WorkPad door prize drawing.
"We are very pleased with the overwhelming response we had to our NetWare 5 Bootcamps,"
said Bill Wall, director of North America marketing for Novell. "The Bootcamps were the first
step in delivering on the promise to provide more training on Novell products, specifically
NetWare 5. The NetWare 5 tour is the next step in making sure we respond to customer needs
right now. We are taking a leadership role in solving industry issues such as Year 2000-readiness
and doing secure business at Internet speed. Meeting customer expectations to solve these
problems is the focus of this event."
"The combination of advanced features provided by both NetWare 5 and Netfinity servers is a
benefit to our mutual customers of Novell and IBM," said Rajiv Samant, vice president of
business development, IBM Server Group. "In addition, NetWare support on the other IBM
servers -- AS/400, RS/6000, S/390 -- provide those customers, as well, with the opportunity to
consolidate NetWare servers for better manageability and potentially lower costs. IBM seeks to
provide NetWare users with the very best support across the board in all of our server lines."
