Customer Needs
PROVO, Utah October 5, 1998 Continuing its leadership in directory-enabled
networking for secure business transactions, Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVL) today announced a
partnership with Network Associates, Inc., (NASDAQ:NETA) to provide network solutions with
completely integrated, comprehensive virus protection. As a result of the partnership, Network Associates'
advanced anti-virus software will ship with the newly announced NetWare for Small Business 4.2 in the
fourth quarter of 1998 and will be included in additional products from Novell. The combination of
services is intended to allow businesses to protect their corporate investments from viruses and other threats
to information with minimal time and effort.
The integration of Network Associates' security technology with Novell's leading network management
components further eases the maintenance of combating viruses. Customers will be able to use Novell's
networking solutions while obtaining cutting-edge protection for their corporate data, without having to
install and configure a separate application or dedicate valuable resources to acquire and manage security
features.
"This partnership with Network Associates is part of our ongoing, extensive effort to meet customers'
growing security needs as they extend mission-critical applications and information to the Internet," said
Christopher Stone, senior vice president of strategy and corporate development at Novell. "As computer

"Network Associates provides comprehensive protection against viruses in large enterprise environments,"
said Eric Hemmendinger, senior analyst for Information Security at the Aberdeen Group. "With this
relationship, the company will expand protection into the NetWare environment, helping IS managers
protect large NetWare installations. Novell customers can now get first-class protection against viruses
from existing Novell distributors, providing a win-win situation for Novell customers, Novell and Network
Associates."
