Novell Hosts Premiere of First IMAX Theater in Silicon Valley

Novell demonstrates commitment to Silicon Valley; State-of-the-art theater allows viewers to virtually experience scaling Mt. Everest

PROVO, Utah — October 27, 1998 — In its continuing support of the Silicon Valley community, Novell, Inc. is sponsoring tonight's premiere of the Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater at the new Tech Museum of Innovation in downtown San Jose, Calif. More than 1,000 members of The Tech are expected for the invitation-only event. The featured film Everest, narrated by Liam Neeson, is a dramatic documentary about an expedition to the top of the 29,089-foot summit.

Novell has supported The Tech since it opened its doors in 1990, making educational programs possible for thousands of Silicon Valley children. The Tech runs its own network on Novell products and will soon upgrade to Novell's latest product solutions including NetWare® 5, BorderManager™ and GroupWise®. Novell has provided other financial support, corporate sponsorships and product donations for The Tech.

"The Tech takes a child's 'a-ha' experience and helps teachers translate it into learning," said Jennifer Konecny-Costa, senior vice president of Human Resources at Novell. "The museum is meant to inspire the innovator in everyone, especially children. Many people and organizations have worked very hard to create this gift for kids and educators alike. We believe that Novell customers, partners, and employees will all benefit from this commitment to community."

Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater

Named for donors Mike and Joan Hackworth, the theater is a hemispherical, state-of-the-art facility, 82- feet in diameter covering 12,000 square feet. Unlike traditional flat-screen IMAX theaters, the Hackworth IMAX features a giant dome screen and six-channel, digital wrap-around sound with 13,000 watts of power from 44 speakers. The theater seats 295 people in reclining chairs that help create the feeling of being part of the action.

Everest will be open to the public and shown several times daily beginning November 3. Visitors to the theater may view 15-minute previews of film "shorts" in the theater free during The Tech's opening weekend. For show times or ticket purchase, visit www.thetech.org.

The Tech Museum of Innovation

The Tech's new permanent home will open to the public on October 31, 1998. The new 132,000-square- foot museum, at the corner of Market Street and Park Avenue in downtown San Jose, is made possible through a partnership with The Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Jose. The new museum will include galleries exploring four themes: Innovation — Silicon Valley and Beyond; Communication — Global Connections; Life Tech — The Human Machine; and Exploration — The New Frontiers. Also new to The Tech is the Hackworth IMAX ® Dome Theater and the Robert N. Noyce Center for Learning. For museum hours and information, visit www.thetech.org or call (408) 294-TECH.
