Novell Products Gain Industry Accolades

Novell's NDS 8, BorderManager 3.0, NDS for NT 2.0, GroupWise 5.5 and NetWare 5 Win Awards from Industry Publications

LAS VEGAS (NetWorld+Interop) — May 12, 1999 — Adding to a long list of honors bestowed on its directory-enabled networking products, Novell®, Inc. today announced that NetWare® 5, BorderManager™ 3.0, GroupWise® 5.5, NDS™ for NT 2.0 and NDS 8 have received new product awards from top industry publications Network Magazine and Network Computing. This recognition brings the total number of awards given to Novell products since 1997 to 45. More significantly, however, the awards demonstrate industry confirmation that Novell's directory-enabled solutions are becoming increasingly critical to customer networks in organizations of every kind and size.

In Network Computing's fifth annual "Well-Connected Awards," Novell captured top honors in the Directory Service category with its full-service enterprise directory, NDS 8. The world's leading directory service was praised for being a cross-platform solution. Network Computing wrote, "The most integrated directory service available is Novell's NDS, version 8.0. With Novell's own suite of NDS-aware applications, as well as its efforts to port NDS to additional platforms such as Windows NT and Sun Solaris, NDS has taken the first steps to bridging the OS-directory service gap."

Network Magazine bestowed "Product of the Year Awards" on four Novell products including NetWare 5 in the Server Operating System category; NDS for NT 2.0 in the Directory Services category; BorderManager 3.0 in the Proxy Server category; and GroupWise 5.5 in the Groupware category.

Regarding NetWare 5, Network Magazine wrote: "In order to hold on to a prominent place in the world of servers, Novell had to earn straight A's with NetWare 5's features. Mission accomplished ... NetWare 5 is a compelling upgrade for existing NetWare customers, and a server OS worthy of careful evaluation by anyone else."

NDS for NT 2.0 was praised as a solution that greatly simplifies network management for companies that rely on Windows NT, while BorderManager 3.0 earned top honors for not only excelling at proxy-server basics, but also for enhanced features like reverse caching and packet-filtering firewall.

As the winner in the Groupware category, GroupWise 5.5 was noted for its ease of use and immediate value. "GroupWise has always been the easiest groupware product to install and run right out of the box, and 5.5 builds on that ... One big advantage of the product is that GroupWise account management is tightly integrated with NDS," Network Magazine wrote of GroupWise 5.5.
