Novell Net Publisher™ Allows Secure Publishing and Management of Documents on the Web

Cross-platform Web Publishing Tool, Formerly Code-named Magellan, Gives Businesses Control of Web Content

NICE, France (BrainShare Europe '99) — May 18, 1999 — Already experiencing the fastest rate of growth in its history, Novell®, Inc.'s family of collaboration solutions continues to build momentum with the development of the company's cross-platform Web publishing tool, Novell Net Publisher™. Scheduled for beta release later this summer, Novell Net Publisher is a directory-enabled solution that allows companies to easily and securely create, manage and publish Web documents. As one of many new Novell solutions that smoothly extend customer networks and applications to the Internet, Novell Net Publisher will be demonstrated here this week at the BrainShare Europe '99 conference.

Secure Publication

Because of its ability to authenticate users via Novell Directory Services® (NDS™), Novell Net Publisher gives businesses graded levels of security that enables them to retain control of critical data on the Web. These graded levels of security allow users to selectively define access to folders, files and even portions of a document.

"Novell Net Publisher allows customers to control who can publish what content and who has access to that content," said Bill Mangum, product manager for Novell's directory-enabled applications group. "It even allows companies to establish approval routing, so documents are only published after appropriate review."

Management of Web Content

Novell Net Publisher is a cross-platform Web publishing solution that allows businesses to take control of the creation, management and publication of their Web content through a variety of client interfaces, including Microsoft's Office2000. In addition, Novell Net Publisher is designed to run in today's heterogeneous networks and supports NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT and UNIX. Because of Novell Net Publisher's tight integration with NDS and its support of the WebDAV Internet standard, end users can become involved in Web content creation and maintenance using LDAP to access the industry standard Novell Directory Services. The result allows businesses to manage their data and its publication to the Web in the way that best fits their business practices.

Using Novell Net Publisher, Web documents are stored in their native file format and can be converted to HTML on the fly as they are accessed or even downloaded in their original format. Storing files in their native format eliminates the need to create separate versions of those documents for publishing.

"As a directory-enabled application, Novell Net Publisher leverages customers' NDS investment to greatly simplify the creation and maintenance of their Internet- or intranet-based information," said Mangum. "Novell Net Publisher is an ideal business solution for companies that manage a large amount of Web content or that want document management and collaboration capabilities without the overhead and cost of a complex system."

Availability

Currently being demonstrated at BrainShare Europe '99, an open beta version of Novell Net Publisher is expected in mid-summer 1999.
