Novell to Unveil New Logo for the "Novell Utah Showdown," the Utah Stop on the SENIOR PGA TOUR

Today's Event Previews Novell's New Sponsorship of the Nationally Televised Golf Tournament — with a Purse of $1.35 Million

PARK CITY, Utah — June 7, 1999 — Novell®, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVL) today will unveil the new logo identifying the official Utah stop on the SENIOR PGA TOUR — the "Novell Utah Showdown." Today's event marks the commencement of activities leading up to the three-day tournament slated for July 30 through Aug. 1, 1999. The tournament course, Park Meadows Country Club in Park City, Utah, will be the stage for today's logo unveiling.

Adding a new and technological twist, Novell will literally "wire" the tournament. Dubbed "Novell Connecting Points," the tournament network will feature computers stationed at key locations that enable participants to send and receive e-mail, access the Internet and contact others at the tournament via e-mail. This is the first time that SENIOR PGA players and the gallery will have access to Internet technology throughout a tournament.

"Novell's vision and technology are creating individual identities and relationships across networks," said David Bradford, Novell senior vice president and general counsel, representing Novell's Executive Committee at today's event. "Our support for the 'Novell Utah Showdown' is itself an expression of Novell's identity and relationship to the Utah community."

ESPN golf analyst, Jim Kelly, will emcee the day's events, which will begin with a golf clinic given by last year's tournament champion, Dr. Gil Morgan. The new "Novell Utah Showdown" logo will be unveiled by David Bradford during the luncheon press conference. Following the press conference, guests and members of the media will join Dr. Morgan and "Novell Utah Showdown" officials for a round of golf on the Park Meadows tournament course.

This is the first year of Novell's four-year sponsorship agreement. The purse for this year's tournament is set at $1.35 million, a $350,000 increase from last year, and will continue to increase a minimum of $100,000 in each of the next three years of the sponsorship agreement.

Novell's long-term commitment as the title sponsor ensures the tournament's continued stay in Utah and support for the tournament's official charity, the University Hospital's Newborn Intensive Care Unit. This one-of-a-kind center — serving the critical needs of newborns in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana — handles cases involving premature births, lung disease, infections, birth injuries and other complications affecting these infants.

"Novell's sponsorship of the tournament and support of the charity are invaluable," said Bryan Naugle, "Novell Utah Showdown" tournament director. "Novell continues to expand its role as a responsible leader in the Utah community and serves as an example to the business community at large. We are excited to have a sponsor of Novell's caliber for the tournament."
