Novell Combines Award-winning Year 2000 Tool With Directory Leadership to Help Prepare Customers for the Millenium

Greenwich Mean Time's Check 2000 Update Available from Novell

PROVO, Utah — June 14, 1999 — Novell®, Inc. today announced availability of Greenwich Mean Time's Check 2000, version 3.11, further enhancing Novell's directory-based environment that makes it easier and more cost-effective for organizations to check their computer networks for Year 2000 readiness. Combining this new version of Check 2000 with Novell's directory-based desktop management solution, ZENworks™, provides Novell's customers with a unique capability for assessing Year 2000 problems from a central console and electronically "pushing" the required fixes to any number of networked desktops.

ZENworks is the only directory-enabled desktop management solution combined with a Year 2000 diagnostic tool on the market today. Novell customers can obtain several types of Year 2000 readiness tools, including Check 2000, by contacting a Novell reseller or visiting Novell's Web site at http://www.novell.com/year2000 (see today's related Novell release).

"There is no better way to assess and repair Y2K issues than with Check 2000 and ZENworks," said Karl Feilder, CEO of Greenwich Mean Time and Year 2000 authority. "Now, more than ever, it is critical that companies determine their Year 2000 risks and implement fixes. It is our understanding that most companies are running network server checks, but in order to help ensure a truly seamless transition into 2000 companies must also check the entire network, including desktops."

"Customers need more time as they prepare their computer networks for the turn of the century," said Samm DiStasio, director of marketing for Novell. "Time is one thing we can give our customer with ZENworks. By automating software upgrades and patch distribution, network administrators will save numerous hours in their efforts to make sure they are Y2K ready. The new version of Check 2000 gives customers the ability to check their networks for more than twice the number of potential Y2K-related issues as the previous version."

Using ZENworks and Check 2000, Novell customers gain more control over desktop Year 2000 management. ZENworks allows network administrators to lock down each workstation to help keep it free of Year 2000 problems once the initial fixes are completed. Alternatively, companies can use ZENworks to schedule Check 2000 to run periodically to re-scan the network. With these and other directory-enabled features, ZENworks is designed to make using the network easier for users, keeping employees more productive.

Check 2000 version 3.11 continues to provide industry-leading Y2K readiness checks, and improves on its already expansive database of potential problems, checking everything from hardware to data. The diagnostic capability in version 3.11 of Check 2000 has been increased to provide status information and Year 2000 advice on more than 10,000 software programs. In addition, version 3.11 now recognizes over 24,000 software programs for audit purposes. With the combination of ZENworks and Check 2000, companies will be able to keep their end-users productive into and beyond 2000.
