Oracle and Novell Announce Certified Database Operator Course for NetWare

Education Initiative Expands Oracle Training as Part of the Certified Novell Engineer Program

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — June 23, 1999 — Oracle Corp. and Novell, Inc. today announced that Novell® Authorized Education CenterSM (NAECSM) partners, as part of the Certified Novell EngineerSM (CNE®) program, will offer Oracle Education's Oracle Database Operator (DBO) course training for the NetWare® Operating System. This will make NetWare training on the Oracle database available to Novell professionals, enabling them to enhance their IT skills as Oracle Database Operators under the Oracle Certified Professional program. It will also allow these users to maximize the five-user Oracle 8i license they received with their purchase of NetWare.

This course, along with the bundling of Oracle WebDB with NetWare and a growing number of independent software vendors' applications built on Oracle for NetWare, will make the Oracle database even more accessible to Novell users, including those who may be accustomed to other, non-relational database systems. Course topics include using Oracle 8i with Novell Directory Services® (NDS™) to simplify access and management of information distributed across the enterprise and the World Wide Web.

"Thanks in great part to the Oracle/NetWare bundle, our users have expressed immense interest in attending Oracle training classes specific to the Novell environment," said Roger Blomgren, vice president of Novell Education. "The Oracle database course for NetWare gets IT professionals started with the Oracle database through basic administrative tasks and provides a foundation for further learning and career enhancement. It is another example of Novell's ongoing efforts to integrate multivendor training into the CNE curriculum."

NAECs will offer the Oracle DBO for NetWare course as an elective in the CNE curriculum, which also includes as electives course 555 (Integrating NetWare and Windows NT) and course 770 (Securing Intranets with BorderManager™). The DBO for NetWare course is a best-in-class solution that combines four days of classroom instruction with two self-study, interactive courseware titles. At the end of their training, students can take a certification exam that would qualify them to become an Oracle Database Operator for NetWare as well as count as an elective in the CNE program. Candidates then have only five more exams to complete their NetWare 5 CNE certification. This DBO certification is a critical milestone along Oracle's Internet database development paths for IT professionals serving small and mid-sized companies.

"NetWare users at small and mid-sized companies traditionally have not had the database management resources of larger corporations," said John Hall, senior vice president of Oracle Education. "Adding the DBO course for NetWare will fill a void in this skill set and validate professionals' knowledge via the Oracle Certified Professionals program, along with their CNE credentials, and will help customers choose the right vendor when making the move to e-business."

The rapid growth in Oracle deployments on NetWare has contributed to the business ecosystem of customers, application developers, solutions and services providers that has evolved along with the success of the NetWare 5 platform and NDS. Backed by Novell's extensive consulting, technical support, and education programs, Novell customers and development partners are leveraging Oracle products and tools in a broad range of applications and e-business activities.
