Novell Education and CompTIA Team Up on Network+ and CNE Certification

Novell to Accept Network+ Exam Toward CNE and Will Also Offer Network+ Course

BOSTON (Edge '99) — June 28, 1999 — Novell, Inc., the world's leading provider of directory-enabled networking software and services, and CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association, today announced Novell is accepting CompTIA's Network+ certification exam in place of Novell's Networking Technologies exam toward a student's Certified Novell EngineerSM (CNE®) status. CompTIA recently introduced Network+ to be the standard for measuring vendor- and product-neutral IT networking technical skills. It is aimed at technicians with 18-24 months of networking experience.

A CompTIA training partner, Novell® Education is also introducing Course 1400, The Novell Guide to Network+, to support CompTIA's Network+ exam and prepare students to achieve Network+ certification. Course 1400 is available to everyone preparing for Network+, and it offers high-quality, instructor-led training with engineer-level labs and exercises for which Novell has become known with its CNE courses. In addition, Course 1400 includes a three-user NetWare® 5 license and free networking assessment tests.

"As a longtime CompTIA member and as the industry leader in computer networking, directory and Internet-based solutions, it is natural that Novell embraces CompTIA's Network+ certification," said Roger Blomgren, vice president of Novell Education. "Making Network+ a part of the CNE certification and offering Course 1400 is an important step in Novell's continuing support of industry-wide training and certification. And with growing demand for CNE professionals and other certified networking professionals, the combination of Network+ and CNE is an excellent career move."

Perry Anthony, CompTIA's director of certification, said CompTIA welcomes Novell's decision to make Network+ certification a step toward CNE certification. "Novell's involvement with Network+ stems from working with CompTIA and other industry leaders to create this new certification in the heritage of CompTIA's A+, recognized throughout the industry as a reliable predictor of employee success. We are pleased Novell is carrying through the Network+ certification by including it in coursework and its own certification program."

Novell Education continues to be the leading provider of network training and certification programs to the growing IT industry. In addition to CNE, other Novell certifications include Master CNESM, Certified Novell AdministratorSM (CANSM), Certified Novell InstructorSM (CNISM), and Certified Internet ProfessionalSM. During the past decade, more than half a million Novell certifications have been granted.
