Novell Education Announces 'Certified Directory Engineer — A Novell Certification'

Certified Directory Engineer Certification to Feature Live Remote Testing via the Novell Practicum and an Annual Certification Requirement

BOSTON (Edge '99) — June 28, 1999 — Novell, Inc., the world's leading provider of directory-enabled networking software and services, today announced the IT industry's first certification program that focuses exclusively on the directory, called Certified Directory EngineerSM — A Novell® Certification. The Certified Directory Engineer program, which takes advantage of Novell's tremendous directory expertise stemming from its market-leading Novell Directory Services® (NDS™), will train and certify individuals on integration of industry-leading directories and directory-enabled solutions.

Certified Directory Engineer — A Novell Certification will also be the first to feature remote testing via dial-up connection to live directory environments through the Novell Practicum and is the first of its kind to require annual certification using this testing method. Certified Directory Engineer courseware will be available November 1999 with live remote testing to begin early next year.

"The explosion of the directory in the networking and Internet marketplace makes a directory-certification program an absolute necessity," said Roger Blomgren, vice president of Novell Education. "Our experience with NDS has shown that the directory brings a huge benefit to businesses by allowing them to manage objects on their networks and intranets more efficiently, and those same businesses have a great need for qualified specialists to design, deploy, manage and support directory technology."

Support for the Certified Directory Engineer certification comes from companies that experience benefits of the directory in their daily operations. Gary Porter, manager of directory services at the University of Kentucky, said, "The Certified Directory Engineer, with its continuing certification requirement, will be tied into the employee's annual performance and will become a required condition of employment for our directory engineers."

Christy Agan, director of Compaq's North America Enterprise Technical Services organization, stated her company is pleased to see Novell take this critical step to provide training and certification in the directory services space. She further said, "Compaq clearly recognizes the value of a well-deployed directory solution and we look forward to augmenting Novell's Certified Directory Engineer knowledge with Compaq's Accredited System Engineer (ASE) program track. ASEs/Certified Directory Engineers will be the industry leaders for directory skills."

Novell Education continues to be the leading provider of network training and certification programs to the growing IT industry. In addition to Certified Directory Engineer, other Novell certifications include Certified Novell EngineerSM (CNE®), Master CNESM, Certified Novell AdministratorSM (CNASM), Certified Novell InstructorSM (CNISM), and Certified Internet ProfessionalSM. During the past decade, more than half a million Novell certifications have been granted.
