Novell Makes High Availability Solution Available to NetWare 4.2 Users

Novell High Availability Server for NetWare 4.2 Increases Network Reliability

PROVO, Utah — July 13, 1999 — Ensuring even greater reliability of NetWare® 4.2-based networks, Novell, Inc. today announced the shipment of Novell High Availability Server™ for NetWare 4.2. This high availability solution for NetWare 4.2 protects against hardware and software failures by immediately connecting a network user to a fully functioning server at the time of server failure, thus providing maximum network uptime.

Novell High Availability Server utilizes two, fully active NetWare 4.2 or 4.11 servers. When server failure occurs, services and applications on the failing server automatically become available on the surviving server. This "automatic failover" capability minimizes costs due to network outages and leverages Novell Directory Services® (NDS™) to provide secure access to volumes and directories.

"Driving downtime to near-zero levels is critically important to IBM Netfinity customers," said Don H. Roy, worldwide product marketing manager, IBM Netfinity Clustering. "As part of our OnForever initiative, we have ServerProven the Novell High Availability Server solution on select IBM Netfinity platforms. We regard Novell as one of our key high availability clustering solutions partners."

Novell High Availability Server allows for server maintenance to be performed without significantly affecting the network. Upgrades and testing of new network server resources does not require a network shutdown, and Novell High Availability Server does not require identical hardware for servers to run.

This high availability product supports the use of industry-standard shared disk subsystems, which allow for the centralized management of data. Novell High Availability Server infrastructure is also compatible with upcoming, comprehensive clustering products.
