Novell Tees up Its Sponsorship of SENIOR PGA Golf Tournament

Company Premieres Online Web Access at the Novell Utah Showdown Combining for the First Time Professional Golf and the Internet

PARK CITY, Utah — July 27, 1999 — Novell®, Inc. (NASDAQ: NOVL) today announced the commencement of events surrounding its sponsorship of the Utah stop on the SENIOR PGA TOUR, newly renamed the Novell Utah Showdown. Novell will be initiating complimentary high-speed Internet access for everyone in attendance at the tournament. This makes the Novell Utah Showdown the first SENIOR PGA event to feature Internet technology. Held at the Park Meadows Country Club in Park City, Utah, the three-day SENIOR PGA tournament begins Friday, July 30, with the final round on Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999. Activities preceding the tournament include the Celebrity Skins game on Tuesday, July 27, and the Pro Am tournament on Wednesday through Thursday, July 28-29.

Spectators at the golf course will be able to "surf" the World Wide Web as well as access e-mail via high-speed connections. Novell has also created a tournament Web site featuring up-to-the-minute scores, SENIOR TOUR player profiles, course details and other information about the tournament and Park City.

"This unique combination of sports and technology is made possible by Novell's sponsorship of the tournament and our leadership in the Internet and computer networking industries," said John Slitz, Novell senior vice president, global marketing. "The Novell Utah Showdown gives us the opportunity to combine the various uses of the Internet with an internationally recognized sports event."

The Internet access areas are located in several key locations, including the Pro Am and Novell hospitality tents. Built and administered on location, these technology sites feature Novell flagship products NetWare® 5 and BorderManager™. Additional components of the system include Compaq's Armada 7400 notebook computers and telecommunication services provided by US West.

Another important goal is to raise money for the tournament-designated charities. This year's contribution will go to three causes that seek to help the youngest members of our society. The Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, and Kids Voting Utah comprise this year's recipients.

In March, Novell announced its four-year sponsorship agreement with the SENIOR PGA TOUR ensuring that this event remains in Utah. The sponsorship included a purse increase of $350,000 for this year, bringing the total purse for 1999 to $1.35 million. The purse will continue to increase a minimum of $100,000 for each of the next three years of the agreement.
