Novell Delivers New Directory Synchronization Products From NetVision

NDS-based Synchronicity product line saves network administration time and money

PROVO, Utah—September 14, 1999—Novell, Inc. today announced the addition of NetVision's Synchronicity™ integration tools to its product line. This is another example of how to easily integrate Novell® Directory Services® (NDS®) with tools that manage user accounts spanning Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, Windows NT and NetWare® environments. In 1998, Novell made a minority investment in NetVision as part of the Novell Ventures fund, which was established to encourage development of solutions based on NDS and related Internet technologies. Today's announcement reflects the success of this strategy, adding to Novell's directory lead.

Beginning today and based on NDS, Novell will deliver Synchronicity for Notes, Exchange, NT and NetWare through its wide distribution channels. This increases customer choice and positions Novell as the central source for a comprehensive range of directory solutions.

By leveraging NDS, NetVision's Synchronicity product line will help companies positively impact their bottom line:

  • Companies can easily adapt to both organization and technology changes, allowing them to get the optimal return on existing investments.
  • Cost of administrative resources is reduced as companies can consolidate user data in a single directory repository and manage the information through a single point of administration.
  • Increases productivity by reducing common end-user support issues.

"Novell is committed to simplifying network management by making the directory the foundation of our customers' computer networks," said Patti Dock, vice president of product marketing for Novell. "The Synchronicity products will give our customers the freedom to choose the most effective groupware application or network platform for their particular business and manage all of the data with NDS."

Businesses today depend on a variety of applications from a multitude of vendors. Each of these applications may have its own, separate directory that network professionals are charged with keeping in synch. The Synchronicity product line will allow companies to automatically manage changes and updates to the various directories contained in their network environment. Each of the products in the Synchronicity family will make managing network data more efficient by minimizing the manual updates and redundant tasks network administrators currently endure. By synchronizing the disparate directories in a network, updates will only need to be made once and end-users will only require one login password for the network and all operating systems and applications.

"With Novell, NetVision is helping customers center their network around the leading directory service, NDS" said Todd Lawson, president of NetVision. "Based on NDS, Synchronicity saves network administrators countless man hours through directory synchronization. By automating directory updates across the network, IS professionals become free to expand their companies network to the Internet and attend to more strategic, business-critical issues."
