Novell Issues Additional Y2K Updates

Customers use network-based tools to ready 44 million user licenses for Y2K

PROVO, Utah—September 22, 1999—Continuing its efforts to help customer organizations worldwide ready their networks for Y2K, Novell, Inc. today announced additional updates have been posted for select Novell products on its Year 2000 Web site. In an effort to make the transition into the new millennium as smooth as possible for its customers, Novell has continued to test its directory-based products during the past three years for Y2K compliance in a variety of customer environments and configurations. Novell encourages customers to evaluate and install the latest available updates by accessing Novell's Year 2000 web site at http://www.novell.com/year2000.

Using Novell's free Y2K Information Ferret® tool, Novell customers to date have evaluated and checked more than 44 million user licenses of Novell's award-winning NetWare server platform for Y2K compliance, along with most other Novell products in use on their networks. The Ferret tool checks customers' servers for Novell products and evaluates the Y2K status of the products being used. In most cases, Novell provides customers with a detailed report of their Y2K product status within 24 hours of running the Ferret tool on their networks. The Ferret tool is available for download from Novell's Year 2000 web site.

Novell's Year 2000 web site also includes a Y2K e-mail subscription list. Currently, more than 80,000 Novell customers subscribe to the e-mail list and receive notification when critical Y2K information surfaces.

In addition to Novell's Ferret tool and web site, Novell offers Greenwich Mean Time's Check 2000 to help customers identify and repair potential Year 2000-related issues on the desktop. Check 2000 is a Windows product that checks PC's for Y2K risks by analyzing five levels of the Y2K problem: hardware (BIOS), operating systems, software programs, data and data sharing. Check 2000 is available from Novell for $20 per user for Novell ZENworks users and $44 when purchased as a standalone package.
