Novell and IBM Help Developers Bring Products to Market Sooner

Novell 'Directory-enabled' and 'Yes, Tested and Approved' Compatibility Programs Team with IBM's Netfinity ServerProven Program

PROVO, Utah — Oct. 12, 1999 — Novell, Inc., the world's leading provider of directory-enabled networking software and services, today announced Novell and IBM® are accelerating the development of directory-enabled applications by offering IBM's Netfinity® ServerProven® validation program along with the Novell® "Directory-enabled" and "Yes, Tested and Approved" compatibility logo programs.

By combining the strengths of each program, Novell and IBM have established a one-stop system for their joint ISV partners to test applications at Novell Authorized Testing Centers (NATC) that meet specified, high standards of quality and interoperability among IBM and Novell products. Recognized worldwide, the Novell "Directory-enabled" and "Yes, Tested and Approved" logos allow customers to easily identify software and hardware solutions optimized for deployment with Novell products. IBM's Netfinity ServerProven program enables developers to pre-test applications for use with IBM Netfinity servers.

"The ServerProven Solutions Program lets customers focus on running their business, minimize integration risks, and it helps provide a smooth and reliable installation," said Sandy Carter, director of PartnerWorld for Developers, IBM Netfinity Brand. "Both Novell's compatibility programs and IBM's ServerProven program are important factors for customers when making purchasing decisions. This collaboration offers our joint ISV partners a solid resource when seeking platform validation."

According to David Fleck, Novell vice president of developer relations, software developers are increasingly focusing on directory-enabled Internet applications that leverage Novell Directory Services® (NDS®). "By incorporating IBM's Netfinity ServerProven program with its associated standards, we can ensure rigorous testing while also making it easier and more convenient for developers to complete these tests, prove compatibility and validate their solutions," Fleck said.

Network Associates, Inc. will be one of the first software companies to complete Novell's product compatibility testing with IBM's ServerProven program. Greg McMurdie, director of product engineering for Network Associates, said, "With security applications like firewalls and antivirus software, seamless integration with network management tools is critical and downtime is not an option. Network Associates is proud to join Novell and IBM in their commitment to deliver proven, tested solutions customers know they can rely on. We are glad to be leading the way with this program, and confident that this testing will help our joint customers take full advantage of their servers, networks and enterprise applications."

Novell compatibility and IBM ServerProven testing using Novell tests is available through NATC partners KeyLabs and The Quality Group. They can be reached at 801-226-8200 and 978-772-7081, respectively. Novell's DeveloperNet® program provides workshops, online training, tools, resources, developer support and co-marketing opportunities for more than 70,000 network and Internet development professionals worldwide.
