external:/img/h_arrow.gif D. H. Brown: SUSE Linux is closing in on Unix

A current analysis by market research analysts D.H. Brown Associates provides evidence that Linux has made enormous progress since the last study and has already leaped ahead of proprietary Unix systems in a range of different business areas.

Oakland, Calif. — 10/04/2001

Even though the study still reveals an advantage for Unix in terms of scalability, system management and maintenance, in practice IT professionals responsible for standard server tasks have already unanimously endorsed the compelling Linux price-performance ratio. In terms of server operating systems, Linux trumped Unix long ago. According to the IDC, Linux has a 27% global market share and holds the No. 2 position uncontested.

A summary of the study is available for download in pdf format at the D.H. Brown Associates Web site.
