Nuremberg, Germany 07/04/2002 Today, SUSE Linux, the
international Open Source technology leader and solutions
provider, announced the release of an update for SUSE Linux
Enterprise Server 7 for IBM eServer iSeries and pSeries systems.
SUSE Linux presents the latest Linux technologies for enterprise
customers who use SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 on these IBM
eServer platforms, covered by SUSE maintenance guarantee:
Expanded hardware support
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for iSeries and pSeries supports
IBM's latest powerful p690, p670, and i890 systems with Power4
microprocessors. For the first time, the latest generation of
pSeries servers can be partitioned into logical systems. This
gives customers the flexibility to consolidate multiple
applications on a single high-performance server, thus reducing
the complexity of their IT infrastructure and resulting in cost
savings.
New drivers
With the help of the ODBC driver for Linux, users can access DB2
Universal Database for OS/400 from Linux applications.
New security fixes
Important improvements in the field of security contribute to
keeping the IT system up to date with latest features.
New patches
Expanded features ensure stable and smooth system operations.
Available for download or on CD
Users of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for iSeries and pSeries
receive the innovations through a password-protected Internet site
or on CD within the scope of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
maintenance service. New users, who now buy SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server 7 for iSeries and pSeries including 12 months of system
maintenance from a SUSE partner, automatically receive the Update
CD.
