AltaVista Search in Novell Portal Services Now Available PROVO, Utah — December 6, 2001 — Novell today announced the immediate availability of Service Pack 2 for Novell Portal Services 1.0, which includes AltaVista Search Engine Software as a core component of Novell Portal Services. AltaVista Search Software leverages the power of Novell eDirectory to provide secure search capabilities based on users' business context (roles, locations, business hierarchy, workgroups, cost codes, etc.), giving portal users fingertip access to the combined information resources of the intranet and the Internet. Efficient and secure access to these critical resources helps users work more effectively while enhancing relationships and communications with partners and customers.Unlike other portal search offerings, the directory-enabled AltaVista Search Software will associate indexes of internal and external Web sites and documents to users based on their business context.
