PROVO, Utah — Jan. 11, 2002 —Founded in 1968 in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is the third-largest institution of higher education in Kansas and the largest of 19 community colleges in the state. With more than 34,000 students, JCCC offers a full range of undergraduate courses and employs approximately 2,500 faculty and staff. To help manage IT services for its large and ever-changing user base, JCCC turned to Novell for a network management solution that would give IT administrators the ability to distribute desktop applications and virus alerts to professors and labs, regardless of the desktop operating system running on their machines.

The native file access capabilities of NetWare 6 allow Windows, Macintosh, Linux and UNIX workstations to connect directly to NetWare servers, giving IT administrators at JCCC the ability to support professors who have the basic NT client installed on their desktop while also providing native connectivity to professors using Macintosh desktops, giving college officials the flexibility they need to work with every professor or student without dictating individual hardware or OS choices.

"With NetWare 6 and ZENworks for Desktops, we're able to push software out to more than 2,000 desktops automatically without worrying about what technology is on the other end," said Brad Staupp, senior support analyst for JCCC. "Having all of our data go through a TCP/IP port without having to install client32 on everyone's workstation is a great benefit for us. Now it doesn't matter what platform or machine professors use, we can still keep them in the technology loop, image our computer labs quickly and remotely, and provide the most up-to-date technology to help students focus on learning."
