01/25/2002 SUSE Linux, the international Open Source technology leader and solutions
provider, is the first Linux provider to deliver a 2.4-series Linux kernel
that is supported and certified by SAP: kernel 2.4.7. In addition, the SAP
LinuxLab in Walldorf, Germany, awarded the new SUSE Linux kernel 2.4.16
the quality label "Generally Available for mySAP.com". SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server was released for mySAP.com back in mid-2001 and can be used by
companies around the world with full support from SAP and SUSE Linux.
Furthermore, the fact that this certification occurs simultaneously with
the publication of the kernel update for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7
evidences the close cooperation between SAP and SUSE Linux.
Initial benchmark tests reveal a clear stability and performance increase
under high I/O and memory loads; under these extreme conditions, the new
kernel achieved a consistent performance that was up to ten times better
than ever before. This is made possible by the kernel's memory management,
which has been progressively optimized by SUSE's kernel developer Andrea
Arcangeli over the last few months.
This new kernel is now available for customers who use SUSE Linux
Enterprise Server 7 and can be downloaded from the Maintenance Web together with
detailed installation instructions.
In case you wish to benefit from these advantages, but do not yet use
mySAP.com on SUSE Linux Enterprise 7, please contact proserv@suse.com.
