PROVO, Utah - March 24, 2003 — Identity management is a critical foundation for secure computing in a Web-based world. Winston Bumpus, Novell's director of Open Technologies and Standards, will discuss the relationship of identity management to Web services at the March 25 Digital Identity Summit in Santa Clara, Calif. (www.fulcrasummits.com). Joining representatives from Siebel, Sun, the Liberty Alliance and Digital ID World, among others, Bumpus will outline how directory technologies that underpin digital identity management are changing to reflect how identity issues must be addressed in Web services environments. With a strong identity management offering around its Novell Nsure services and a Web services development solution with Novell exteNd, Novell brings a unique perspective on the need for, and challenges of, integrating identity with Web services.

Bumpus serves as president of the Distributed Management Task Force. He is currently chair of several standards activities at OASIS, including the Web Services Distributed Management Technical Committee, and he is the chair of the Directory Interoperability Forum. He is co-author of the recently released books "Common Information Model" and "The Foundations of Application Management."
