| Novell Vice President of Strategy to Discuss Web Services Reality at 2003 SIIA Annual Conference | ||||

PROVO, Utah — May 1, 2003 — Building on the SIIA conference theme of "Leveraging Change: Strategies for Growth," Kirk Klasson, Novell's vice president of strategy will join other industry leaders in a discussion of the state of the market for Web services. The event is part of the annual SIIA conference, to be held on May 4-6 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The panel, titled "Web Services is the Only New Game in Town: Can it Move Beyond Hyperventilation to Reality?" will specifically explore the technologies, platforms, standards and interoperability issues that could potentially derail the promise of the technology. Panelists will offer the audience insights into helping customers understand the benefits of Web services technologies in the context of existing markets. "The hype surrounding Web services has resulted in a lot of unnecessary confusion about what the technology can and can't do," said Klasson. "There are certainly many benefits to be realized by implementing the technology, but as an industry we have not done a very good job of articulating the benefits to our customers. Hopefully, this panel will paint a clearer picture of the opportunities and help us all understand how we can best communicate the benefits of Web services to our customers." As vice president of strategy for Novell, Klasson is responsible for the identification of new business and technology-based opportunities. He is a recognized thought leader and frequent speaker on digital strategies and the new economy, Internet-based business models, knowledge management, value chain and lateral integration strategies and customer acquisition and loyalty issues.
