PROVO, Utah Oct. 14, 2003 — Continuing its commitment to simplify Web application development, Novell announced its support for today's release of the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) XForms 1.0 Recommendation. The standard serves as the foundation for next-generation Web-based forms, reducing the complexity of developing Web pages and forms that interact with Web services and display information to any Web-enabled device.

Novell is an active participant on the XForms Working Group, which led the development of XForms 1.0, and has also been one of the first companies to provide a full implementation of the standard. Novell exteNd 5, which is currently in beta testing, delivers drag-and-drop tools based on XForms that dramatically reduce coding effort and enable developers at all skill levels to visually create business critical applications. Application developers can easily transform legacy systems into Web services, orchestrate them into business processes and create interactive portals without writing a single line of code.

"The release of the XForms 1.0 Recommendation is a significant milestone in the development of rich Web applications," said David Litwack, senior vice president for Novell's Web services platform. "XForms is the ideal front-end technology to Web services and a crucial part of Novell's strategy for enabling rapid development and deployment of sophisticated services-oriented applications. Novell's commitment to the Recommendation is evident from the use of XForms as a key part of exteNd's architecture and our active participation in the XForms Working Group in defining such a landmark Web standard."

Novell has participated in the development of many new standards, including XForms, in order to provide developers with the best technology for Web application development.
