PROVO, Utah Dec. 01, 2003 — IIJ Technology (IIJ-Tech) has tapped Novell exteNd, the company's Web services integration platform, along with associated Novell consulting services, as the foundation for the one of the world's first ASP-based enterprise application integration services.

Typical enterprises today are hampered by disparate systems built with different technologies, from Java, CORBA, 3270, and CICS to DB2, Oracle and SAP. Data Integration Service by IIJ- Tech is a subscription-based service which translates data from these different business applications into XML in real time and integrates them in a Web services framework. The service quickly and accurately enables enterprise customers to leverage an integrated information repository, tapping data from across multiple systems, to make rapid business decisions, without a prohibitive initial investment.

Novell exteNd, the company's Web service integration platform, is the base technology for IIJ- Tech's Data Integration Service. Novell exteNd Composer translates various existing system data to XML and packages that information as a Web service. Novell exteNd Director provides tools to build a Web portal that allows employees to easily and rapidly access this integrated data.

Novell exteNd enables easy integration of existing systems
IIJ-Tech tapped Novell exteNd for its Data Integration Service because of its ease of use and the high productivity delivered. Novell exteNd Composer is equipped with connectors to access various systems with their native protocols and to translate system data to XML. Novell exteNd Composer handles all the integration work, meaning no modification to existing systems, and its complete visual development environment enables developers to map the existing system data to XML easily with drag and drop. With these innovative features, Novell exteNd offers virtual integration of business resources easily in a short time, enabling enterprise customers to use various business resources just by connecting to the network. Businesses can build flexible information systems to cope with rapid changes in business needs.

Novell exteNd Director helps IIJ-Tech build and manage Web portals for the enterprise information integrated by Novell exteNd Composer. By utilizing metadata, the product enables extensive content management, including data layout and display, version, publishing dates and effective dates. Novell exteNd Director also helps ease development load through an integrated visual development environment, resulting in more rapid time to service for IIJ- Tech.

Successfully tested at a major manufacturer
Prior to the formal launch of Data Integration Service, Novell and IIJ-Tech deployed this Web service application integration solution to visualize sales budgets and results for a major manufacturing company. The solution integrates separate sales budget management and sales result management systems in real time. This enables employees at the company to now assess how they're meeting budget in real time, helping them to take measures quickly.
