10/01/2003 The upcoming SUSE Linux 9.0 has achieved LSB certification even before
start of sales, verifying adherence to the community and industry
developed standard for both Linux distributions and Linux-based
applications.
LSB, a workgroup under the Free Standards Group, standardizes the core
functionality of Linux and the suite of GNU tools, giving Linux
distributions and Linux-based applications the opportunity to reach a
wider market, while allowing application developers to concentrate on
increased functionality. LSB was developed through a collaboration between
community developers, Linux distribution companies, ISVs and system
vendors.
As an active member of the Linux Standard Base, SUSE meets the demand
of their business customers for standardized technical Open Source
software features. The standardization considerably eases ISVs' and IHVs'
certification efforts. Hence, the availability of standardized, quality
assured IT solutions guarantees customers as well stability as
future-proofness and pushes the further proliferation of SUSE Linux in
enterprises.
