07/08/2003NetApp® Storage Solutions Available on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - July 8, 2003 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage, and SUSE Linux today announced a global partnership to meet the growing demand for increased storage flexibility on SUSE Linux.

The rapid deployment and growth of Linux for high-performance computing is enabling businesses to significantly extend their storage capabilities on this technology. Network Appliance? unified storage solutions provide customers running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, powered by United Linux, an increased ability to optimize performance, simplify management, and reduce costs.

The partnership offers customers a competitive advantage because it enables SUSE Linux to offer cost-effective, large-scale deployments of computing farms enabled by Network Appliance unified storage solutions. SUSE has tested and certified Network Appliance storage solutions across a broad range of protocols and connectivity to ensure seamless integration.

"Using NetApp storage as a strategic component in combination with SAP and SUSE Linux provides us with unmatched levels of performance, flexibility, and availability," said Frank Schäfer, managing director at IWKA Informations Systeme, the IT subsidiary of IWKA Group. "The solution not only reduces total cost of ownership, but also simplifies data management in a demanding enterprise environment."

Beyond the capabilities of NFS and Fibre Channel SCSI, SUSE Linux is well suited for upcoming iSCSI environments and the Direct Access File System (DAFS) technology. DAFS is a high-performance file access technology designed for next-generation clustered server environments.

A joint support agreement between SUSE and Network Appliance will provide customers with enhanced service quality and maximum system availability.
