04/07/2004 SANTA CLARA, Calif., 07.04.2004
NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a
premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in
North America, today announced the first TPC benchmark score conducted on
a 32-way NEC server running Oracle® Database 10g Enterprise Edition and a
pre-release of the next generation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
Testing was conducted on a 32-way, NEC Express5800/1320Xd server based on
Intel® Itanium® 2 processors. TPC-C1 is an industry-standard benchmark for
measuring a system's processing performance based on an enterprise
transaction model for handling orders.
The 609,467 transactions per minute (tpmC)2 benchmark score was achieved,
in part, by leveraging NEC's highly scalable, ccNUMA system architecture
utilizing 32 Intel Itanium 2 processors. Oracle Database 10g is designed
to take advantage of system and processor advancements such as those made
by both NEC and Intel Corporation. Oracle?s enhancements enable the
database to scale to the next generation of 64-bit computing environments.
Developed in close collaboration with Intel and certified for Oracle
database, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for Intel Itanium Processor Family
is designed to meet the highest requirements in terms of scalability and
performance.
"Linux is a reliable and cost effective platform for transaction
processing systems," said Richard Sarwal, vice president of Server
Performance at Oracle. "Oracle Database 10g in conjunction with NEC
Express servers provides companies with a high-performance, scalable
system to handle their most demanding needs."
"NEC's impressive TPC-C results demonstrate the performance and
flexibility of systems based on Intel?s Itanium 2 processors for large
databases. This is the first Linux result on high-end SMP systems achieved
through the close cooperation of Intel, NEC, Oracle and SUSE, and it
exemplifies the scalability of Linux for enterprise datacenter
environments", said Richard Dracott, general manager of Enterprise
Marketing and Planning at Intel Corporation.
"SUSE Linux Enterprise Server brings best-of-breed, reliable and
maintained Linux into datacenters and is the clear choice for all high
performance efforts," said Markus Rex, general manager of SUSE Linux for
Novell. "The TPC benchmark once more proves that SUSE's enterprise
products are truly ready for mission-critical deployment."
"TPC-C benchmark results are a testimony to the high performance and
scalability of NEC server products. We are pleased to present our findings
in conjunction with such high level enterprise market leaders," said Larry
Sheffield, senior vice president of the Solutions Platform Group for NEC
Solutions America.
