Check out this free evaluation of SUSE® Linux Enterprise Real Time, which includes the entire contents of the full version plus 60 days of patches and updates. SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Prerequisites

SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 Service Pack 2 (SLERT 10 SP2) is a high performance, low latency, deterministic operating system based on SUSE Linux Enterprise. More specifically, it is an add-on product to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2 (SLES 10 SP2). Contained in SLERT 10 SP2's electronic download media are all of the latest packages associated with the real time kernel, libraries, tools, and utilities.

In order to install, configure and use SLERT 10 SP2, you must first install SLES 10 SP2, and then install the real time kernel and packages.

If you do not have a SLES 10 SP2 installation, you can either purchase one or download an evaluation copy. Please make sure you have a current, up to date SUSE Linux Enterprise Server installation before you install the SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time kernel and packages. Please apply all available maintenance patches and updates to your SLES 10 SP2 installation before installing SLERT 10 SP2.

How to Use Your Activation Code

During installation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time you will be asked to validate your Internet access. In the Update Configuration Section, the Novell Customer Center Configuration screen will appear. You will be asked if you want to proceed. At this point:

1. Enter the Activation Code from the Novell download page and your e-mail address.
2. Click Next. If you prefer not to update now, click No, Skip Update.
3. Updates can be performed at any time after the installation. However, if there are any updates available, we recommend downloading and installing them to fix known bugs or security issues.

You are now ready to begin your evaluation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time.

NOTE: The only limitation of this evaluation software is the duration of your free access to update.novell.com. Should you choose to purchase a subscription for SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time, you will be provided with a new Activation Code, which you can easily update in your machine or in Novell Customer Center, in order to re-enable access to update.novell.com for maintenance patches and updates.

You are now entitled to get your 60 days of maintenance for SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time by: entering your Novell username and password during a YaST Online Update; downloading patches via Novell Customer Center; or manually downloading patches from download.novell.com.

Managing and Extending your Evaluation

Once your evaluation software has automatically been registered, you can use Novell Customer Center to manage your temporary subscription, keep an eye on your expiration date, track all the systems on which you have installed it, and upgrade it to the full subscription when you decide to buy. If you are currently evaluating Novell software, you may choose to extend the evaluation for an additional 60 days. To do this, you need to log in to Novell Customer Center, look up your product and click the Extend link in the Action column. When appropriate, your sales representative can also extend your evaluation.
