Mounting a File System from AIX Machine

Before an NFS user can access an exported NetWare® file system, you need to mount the NetWare file system from the AIX* NFS machine. Use SMIT to accomplish this task.

Adding a Directory to the Mount Form

Before you can mount a NetWare file system using SMIT, you must supply the following information on the Add a File System for Mounting form:

PATHNAME of mount point---the name of the empty directory you want to use as a mount point. If you use a directory that is not empty, the contents of that directory will be unavailable until you unmount the remote file system.

PATHNAME of remote directory---the name of the remote file system that you want to mount.

NOTE: Although this form contains other fields, only those in the preceding list are necessary to mount a file system. If you want further information about any of the other fields, highlight the field and press <F1>.

Mounting the File System

Use this procedure to mount a file system.

  1. Start SMIT by entering the following command:

    smit <Enter>

The utility displays the Main Menu.

  2. From the Main Menu, make the following selections:

    Communication and Application Services
    NFS
    Network Filesystem
Add a File System for Mounting

The utility displays a form for mounting a remote file system. Use the <Up-arrow> and <Down-arrow> keys to move through the form. Do not use <Enter> until you finish the form and want to exit the screen.

  3. Fill in the appropriate fields of the Add a File System for Mounting form (as listed on "Adding a Directory to the Mount Form") and press <Enter>.

The utility exits the form and mounts the file system.
