Download and Installation

NOTE: Ensure that you check currently installed Novell and 3rd Party applications to determine if eDirectory 8.8 SP7 is supported before upgrading your existing eDirectory environment. It is also highly recommended to backup eDirectory prior to any upgrades.

Before installing the product, refer to the prerequisites and installation sections in the Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP7 Installation Guide.

Installing on Windows

To install Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP7 on Windows, complete the following procedure:

1. Create a directory on your server or workstation (for example, C:\novell\nds).
   
2. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.8 SP7 Platform-Specific Downloads, then click Download.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the zipped file to the directory you created.
4. Unzip the file.

Installing on Linux, Solaris, and AIX

To install Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP7 on Linux, Solaris, and AIX, complete the following procedure:

1. Create a directory on the UNIX host.
2. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.8 SP7 Platform-Specific Downloads, then click Download.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the zipped file to the directory you created.
4. Use gunzip to convert the downloaded file to a tar file.
5. Use tar xvf to extract the eDirectory build.

tarball file downloads (nonroot installation)

Installing on Linux, Solaris, and AIX

To install Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP7 as a nonroot user on Linux, Solaris, and AIX, complete the following procedure:

1. Create a directory on the UNIX host.
2. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.8 Tarball Downloads, then click Download.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the zipped file to the directory you created.
4. Use gunzip to convert the downloaded file to a tar file.
5. Use tar xvf to extract and install eDirectory.

CD (iso) images downloads

The Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP7 CD (ISO) Images Downloads option lets you download exact copies of the eDirectory 8.8 SP7 distribution CDs. After you download an .iso file and burn the .iso image to CD, an exact duplicate of the original eDirectory CD is created. Novell eDirectory 8.8 SP7 cannot be installed directly from the electronic .iso files. A CD image of the file MUST be created first. Create the installation CD according to the instructions for your CD imaging software.

1. Create a directory on your server.
2. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.8 SP7 CD (ISO) Images Downloads, then click Download.
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the .iso file to the directory you created.

4. Burn an eDirectory 8.8 SP7 installation CD from the .iso image.

Note: Do not burn the .iso file to CD. Burn the contents of the .iso file (the .iso image) to CD.

DVD image downloads

      The eDirectory builds are available in extracted form in one ISO file called eDirectory_88SP7_All.iso. You can download the ISO and select the build you wish to install.

installing Novell iManager

For detailed instructions on installing iManager, see the Novell iManager 2.7 Installation Guide.

Do the following:

1. On the Novell iManager Downloads page, click the Download button next to a file you want.
2. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the file to a directory on your machine.

Hint: You can also download these plug-ins via the iManager 2.7 installation programs as long as you have access to the Internet.
