Creating a Replication Host

  1. From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Discussion Replication > Configure Replication Host.

  2. In the Remote Server Hostname field, type the name of the host your server will exchange articles with.

You can specify a hostname, such as SECNEWS.NOVELL.COM, or you can specify an IP address. If you have configured your News Server to not resolve hostnames into IP addresses, you must specify an IP address in the hostname field.

  3. Check the box if you want the host to be synchronized with a master host.

Synchronized replica configuration cannot be changed.

  4. Check the box if you want the remote server to be treated as internal to your company.

If you treat the host as internal, you can create or remove discussion groups on it. Before you treat the host as internal, notify the remote server administrator.

  5. In Outgoing Settings, click the Send drop-down list > select which discussion groups to send.

  6. If you select Specified Discussion Groups or All but Specified Discussion Groups, in the Discussion Groups Field, type the name of the discussion groups.

You can specify patterns, such as ROYAL.* to send all discussion groups that start with royal. You can also use negation patterns, such as !*.ANIMALS.* to specify not to send anything that has animals in its name.

  7. In Remote Server Port, select one of the following options:

    • Use Port Number (Same as This Server): Select if the port of the receiving server is the same port number as your News Server.
    • Use This Port: Select if you send to a remote server that listens to a different port number than your News Server. In the associated field, type the port number.

You should always use port number 563 for servers with encryption enabled.

  8. In SSL Setting for Outgoing Connection, select one of the following options:

    • Use SSL Setting of This Server: Select if the remote server has the same security settings as your News Server.

If a remote server has a different setting, any attempted transmissions to that server will generate an error message in the replication log.

    • Remote Server Uses SSL: Select if transmissions must be encrypted before they are sent to the remote server.
    • Remote Server Does Not Use SSL: Select if transmissions must not be encrypted before they are sent to the remote server.

  9. In Incoming Settings for Control Articles, type the discussion groups for which you will accept newgroup control articles in the Accept Newgroup Control Articles for Groups field.

If you want to accept newgroup control articles on all discussion groups, type an asterisk (*).

  10. Click the When Newgroup Control Articles Arrive drop-down list > select how you want to handle the control articles..

If you select Make Log Entry, the articles will be logged in the server log.

  11. In the Accept Rmgroup Control Articles for Groups field, type the discussion groups for which you will accept rmgroup control articles.

  12. Click the When Rmgroup Control Articles Arrive drop-down list > select how you want to handle the control articles.

If you select Make Log Entry, the articles will be logged in the server log.

  13. Click OK.
