Using Disk Usage
Understanding Disk Usage
You can view the following information about disk usage:
- The percentage of disk space used
- The total amount of disk space used
- The number of articles stored on the disk
- The number of subdirectories
The statistics are shown for each directory in the spool. You will always see statistics for the following directories:
- in.coming (incoming articles)
- out.going (outgoing articles)
- over.view (indexes)
- news.archive (archived articles, if you have any)
Viewing the Disk Usage Summary

From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Reports > Disk Usage.

Type the directory name.

Click Run Summary.
Interpreting Disk Usage
You can use the disk usage information to determine
- If you are running out of disk space
- If you need to run expire more frequently because the archive is too big
- Where the bulk of your disk space is being used
- How large each hierarchy is
