Using Disk Usage

Understanding Disk Usage

You can view the following information about disk usage:

• The percentage of disk space used
• The total amount of disk space used
• The number of articles stored on the disk
• The number of subdirectories

The statistics are shown for each directory in the spool. You will always see statistics for the following directories:

• in.coming (incoming articles)
• out.going (outgoing articles)
• over.view (indexes)
• news.archive (archived articles, if you have any)

Viewing the Disk Usage Summary

1. From the General Administration page, click the News Server server name button > Reports > Disk Usage.

2. Type the directory name.

3. Click Run Summary.

Interpreting Disk Usage

You can use the disk usage information to determine

• If you are running out of disk space
• If you need to run expire more frequently because the archive is too big
• Where the bulk of your disk space is being used
• How large each hierarchy is
