VC-Based Multiplexing

VC (virtual connection)-based multiplexing supports one protocol over each ATM connection. No encapsulation is required when data is transmitted. ATM connection setup and takedown occur directly by way of protocol stack requests.

Although NetWare Link/ATM does not place any restrictions on multiple calls using the same protocol, some protocols do not support multiple calls.

The advantage of VC-based multiplexed connections over LLC is traffic separation because it allows connection configuration for individual protocols.
