To plan a NetMail 3.5 installation on a single server:

  1. If you have not already done so, print the PDF version of the "NNLS Planning Worksheet" located in the Novell Nterprise Linux Services Installation Guide.

  2. Record the additional RAM required in the "Server Hardware Requirements" section of the "NNLS Planning Worksheet" you printed in Step 1.

NetMail 3.5 RAM requirements are summarized as follows:

  3. Record the additional disk space required in the "Server Hardware Requirements" section of the "NNLS Planning Worksheet" you printed in Step 1.

IMPORTANT:  You must plan for the message store, message spooling area, event logging data store (Nsure Audit functionality), and other disk space requirements on the /var partition. For more information, see the "Planning Your NetMail System" in the Novell NetMail 3.5 Administration Guide.

NetMail 3.5 system disk space requirements are included in the amounts listed for NNLS in the "NNLS Planning Worksheet" found in the Novell Nterprise Linux Services Installation Guide

  4. To finish planning your NetMail installation, complete the "NetMail" section in the "NNLS Planning Worksheet" (Novell Nterprise Linux Services Installation Guide).

  5. Develop a plan for letting your network users know the steps for accessing their e-mail accounts.

For more information, see "Using WebAccess and Webmail" in the Novell NetMail 3.5 Administration Guide.

GroupWise 6.5 Collaboration Client

If you want your Windows users to access the NetMail 3.5 server using a POP3 or IMAP4 client rather than through a Web browser, you can install the GroupWise client on their workstations.

To plan your GroupWise client installation:

  1. Determine how you will distribute the client software and install it on target workstations.

  2. Determine whether you want users to connect to the NetMail 3.5 (NNLS) server using a POP3 or an IMAP4 connection.

HINT:   POP3 downloads e-mail messages to the local machine and removes them from the NetMail 3.5 server. When downloaded, they are no longer available on other workstations.

IMAP4 preserves copies of messages on the server until they are deleted.

  3. Identify the steps required to configure the client to access your NetMail server and how you will communicate these steps to your users.
