D.2 Requirements for Using Remote NSS Secondary Volumes in DST Shadow Volume Cluster Resources

In addition to the requirements in Section 13.1, Planning for DST in a Cluster, consider the requirements in this section when setting up DST shadow volumes with remote secondary NSS volumes in a Novell Cluster Services cluster environment.

D.2.1 Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 Linux

Each node in the cluster that hosts a DST shadow volume with a remote secondary NSS volume must be running OES 2 SP3 Linux (or later). For simplicity, these nodes are referred to as DST nodes in this section.

D.2.2 Novell Client 2.3 for Linux

Create a Novell Client for Linux mount point for the remote server on each DST node in the cluster that is in the Preferred Nodes list of the DST shadow volume resource.

The remote secondary NSS volume should be mounted on a DST node before you online the DST shadow volume resource on that node.

D.2.3 Primary NSS Volume

The primary pool must be cluster-enabled, and its resource runs on DST nodes in the cluster.

D.2.4 Remote NSS Volume

The remote secondary NSS volume can be in a pool that is unshared or shared. It does not matter whether DST is running on the remote server.

If the remote secondary NSS volume is unshared, it can reside on any server in the same Novell eDirectory tree and partition, including on a node in the cluster.

If the secondary volume is shared and is in the same cluster, you can use one of the methods to manage the secondary volume on the same node that are described in Section 13.0, Configuring DST Shadow Volume Pairs with Novell Cluster Services. You can use the remote setup if you want to manage the shared primary and shared secondary volumes on different nodes in the cluster.
