12.2 Using Mac Support

12.2.1 Joining a Domain

Follow the steps below to join a Mac client to a domain.

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.

  2. Click Network.

  3. Click Advanced > DNS.

  4. Add the DNS Server holding the zone information of the DSfW domain and the domain name of the DSfW domain.

  5. Under System Preferences, click Users & Groups > Login Options > Join.

  6. Click Open Directory Utility.

  7. Select the Active Directory option, then click Apply.

  8. Specify the Active Directory domain, then click Bind.

  9. Specify the local administrator credentials, then click OK.

12.2.2 Logging in to a DSfW Domain from a Mac Workstation

After you join the Mac workstation to the DSfW domain, you can use DSfW user accounts to log in to the Mac workstation.

  1. Click Admin > Other.

  2. Specify the domain credentials with which you want to join the domain.

12.2.3 Accessing NSS Shares

After you join a Mac workstation to a DSfW domain, you can access NSS shares.

  1. Click Go > Connect to server.

  2. Specify the server IP address and the share name that you want to connect to.

12.2.4 Troubleshooting

Use the information in this section to resolve Mac client issues.

Intermittent Failure While Joining Mac Client to a DSfW Domain

When you attempt to join a Mac client that was previously joined to a domain, the join might fail. This is an intermittent issue. To resolve this issue, you must restart the Mac client.
