A.2 Installation Source

You need to designate an installation source for a paravirtualized machine. The following is a list of guest operating systems and the installation sources to use for a paravirtualized installation. The listed sources are suggestions and examples.

A.2.1 SUSE

  • A remote directory containing the install files, specified by using the HTTP protocol: The HTTPS protocol is not supported.

    http://www.domain.com/install_sources/sles10sp2/

  • A remote directory containing the install files, specified by using the FTP protocol:

    ftp://www.domain.com/install_sources/sles10sp2/

  • A remote directory containing the install files, specified by using the NFS protocol:

    nfs://www.domain.com/install_sources/sles10sp2/

A.2.2 Red Hat

  • The NFS protocol is specified slightly differently:

    nfs:www.domain.com:/install_sources/sles10sp2/

  • The SMB protocol is not available.

A.2.3 NetWare

A paravirtualized NetWare® operating system can be installed by using the same installation sources as fully virtualized VMs.

NOTE:Only OES 2 and OES 2 Linux can be paravirtualized. Either can be fully virtualized. NetWare 6.5 and earlier must be fully virtualized. See Section A.1, Disk Source for instructions on fully virtualizing the guest operating system.

A.2.4 Other Linux Installation Sources

All other paravirtualized operating systems can be installed by using the same installation sources as fully virtualized VMs.
