This section contains detailed explanations of the error messages you might encounter when using Preboot Services and Imaging in ZENworks.

An error is displayed when a device with an Imaging role is promoted

Source: ZENworks, Preboot Services and Imaging.
Explanation: When a device is promoted as Imaging Satellite, during refresh, the Imaging Satellite RPM installation fails with an error warning: waiting for shared lock. However, in zicon (ZENworks icon) and when you run zac satr command, the Imaging role is displayed as Active and Enabled.
Action: Run a manual refresh or wait for the subsequent refresh to occur. The Imaging satellite RPM will be installed during the next refresh. After the refresh, restart the Jetty Service.

System might not boot as the Primary GPT Header or Partition Table is corrupted

Source: ZENworks, Preboot Services and Imaging.
Explanation: On an UEFI device, if the primary GPT header or partition table is corrupted, the OS might not boot up.
Action: Boot the device in maintenance mode using any Preboot media and then run the img --fix command.

On the next reboot, the OS boots successfully.

The Imaging agent is currently not installed to run during the boot process of this computer

Source: ZENworks; Preboot Services and Imaging.
Explanation: On Windows 7 or later, the zisdservice runs during the device boot instead of ziswin. Consequently, the following message is displayed in the ziswin window:
The Imaging agent is currently not installed to run during boot process of this computer.

However, you can still successfully take and restore images through ZENworks Control Center.

Action: Ignore the message.

No boot file found in the partition

Source: ZENworks; Preboot Services and Imaging.
Explanation: The error message is displayed while restoring a WIM image that was taken by using ImageX without specifying any /BOOT option.
Possible Cause: The WIM bundle does not contain the boot partition information.
Action: In the error message dialog box, click Yes to restore the image.

Source: ZENworks; Preboot Services and Imaging
Explanation: This error message is displayed when you click the Browse icon for uploading WinPE Base Distribution in ZENworks Control Center (Configuration tab > Management Zone Settings > Device Management > Preboot Services > Third Party Imaging Settings).
Possible Cause: Microsoft Windows Automated Installation Kit 1.0/1.1/3.0 (WAIK) is not installed on the device running the ZENworks Control Center.
Action: Install WAIK 1.0/1.1/3.0 on the device running the ZENworks Control Center.

You can download WAIK from the Microsoft Download Center Web site.

Possible Cause: The error message is incorrectly displayed if ZENworks Control Center is launched on a 64-bit device that has WAIK 1.0/1.1/3.0 installed.
Action: Do the following:
  1. Append the WAIK_installation_path\Windows AIK\Tools\x86 to the Path Windows system environment variable.

  2. Restart the Web browser to launch ZENworks Control Center.

Ghost reported back an error

Source: ZENworks; Preboot Services and Imaging; ZENworks Third-Party Imaging.
Explanation: An error message is displayed if Ghost imaging fails when it is performed through the ZENworks Third-Party Imaging utility.
Action: For detail information about the issue, refer to \windows\system32\ghosterr.txt and take the appropriate action.

Source: ZENworks; Preboot Services and Imaging.
Explanation: The error message is displayed while using PXE boot to perform imaging operations.
Possible Cause: The bootp parameters, which are not compatible with ZENworks imaging, are used to provide the boot filename and the TFTP server’s IP address.
Action: While using PXE boot to perform imaging operations, use the novell-proxydhcp service.

An error is displayed when a device loads a Linux imaging distro

Source: ZENworks; Preboot Services

Possible Cause: This error occurs if the latest Windows OS KB5012170 update or the DBX update from the device vendor is not updated on the device.
Action: Reboot the device to load the alternative shim and Linux distro to temporarily resolve the issue. It is recommended to install the latest Windows OS KB5012170 update.
