In addition to the code fixes that are part of any ZENworks Support Pack, ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 includes the following new or enhanced items:

28.5.1 New Network Operating System Support

ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 has added support for the following network operating systems:

  • SLES 9 SP3 x86

  • SLES 10 x86

  • SLES 10 x86_64

  • OES NetWare version 1 SP2

  • OES Linux,, version 1 SP2 x86_64

  • Windows Server 2003 SP1/R2 Standard Edition x86

  • Windows Server 2003 SP1/R2 Enterprise Edition x86

28.5.2 New Managed Device Platform Support

ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 has added support for the following managed device platforms:

  • Windows XP Professional SP2

  • Windows XP Tablet PC 2005

28.5.3 Updated Novell and Third-Party Products

ZENworks 7 Desktop Management also ships with the following complementary products, which have been updated since the last release:

  • Identity Manager 3 Bundle Edition, to enable you to install ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 in an all-Windows environment, synchronizing data between Novell eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory.

  • Novell eDirectory 8.8, to enable improved performance for managing network resources.

  • Novell iManager 2.6, to help you administer ZENworks 7 Desktop Management in an all-Windows environment.

  • Novell ConsoleOne 1.3.6e, to configure and manage ZENworks objects and snap-ins in eDirectory.

  • Instant Messenger, powered by GroupWise Instant Messenger 2.0.1

  • Novell XTier 3.1.4, updated to increase performance and stability in the Middle Tier.

  • The ZENworks Asset Inventory component of ZENworks 7 Asset Management with SP1. For more information, see “What’s New in Support Pack 1” at the ZENworks 7 Asset Management documentation Web site.

  • Updated products included with ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 include:

    • ZENworks Data Management, powered by Novell iFolder 2.1.7

    • ZENworks Patch Management, powered by PatchLink Update version 6.2.2.

    • ZENworks Software Packaging, powered by InstallShield AdminStudio version 7.5, ZENworks Edition.

    • ZENworks Personality Migration version 11.0.4.6, powered by Unicenter Desktop DNA from Computer Associates.

28.5.4 Application Management Enhancements

Application Management in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 provides the following new features or enhancements:

BITS Support

Novell Application Launcher can now use Microsoft Background Intellegent Transfer Services (BITS) 2.0 to transfer application files to workstations. BITS uses idle network bandwidth to transfer files, increasing or decreasing the rate at which files are transferred based on the amount of idle network bandwidth available.

Citix Presentation Server 4 Support

ZENworks now supports Citrix Presentation Server 4 for Windows.

28.5.5 Workstation Inventory Enhancements

Workstation Inventory in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 now supports the following third-party database management systems for setting up an Inventory database:

  • Oracle10g R2 on Windows, UNIX, or Linux servers.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003.

28.5.6 Clustering Support

ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 has broadened its support for Novell Cluster Services by being “cluster safe” when installed in a cluster on an OES Linux version 1 SP2 server. 28.5.7 New Alternative for Upgrading

ZENworks 7 Desktop Management with SP1 provides a new alternative for upgrading from previous versions of ZENworks for Desktops or ZENworks Desktop Management. For detailed information, see Section 34.0, Upgrading to Support Pack 1 Using Server Software Packages.
