6.4 Management and Monitoring Services Database Error Messages

An error occurred while connecting to the database

Severity: Critical
Explanation: Connection to the database could not be established.
Possible Cause: The database might be down.
Action: Check whether the database is down. To bring up the database, enter mgmtdbs at the management server prompt.

An error occurred during database backup

Explanation: The database backup operation could not be performed.
Possible Cause: The database might be down.
Action: Check whether the database is down. To bring up the database, enter mgmtdbs at the management server prompt.

An error occurred while updating the database

Severity: Important
Explanation: The password for the database could not be changed.
Possible Cause: The database might down.
Action: Check whether the database is down. To bring up the database, enter mgmtdbs at the management server prompt.

An error occurred while updating NDS

Severity: Important
Explanation: When you attempted to change the database password, Novell eDirectory™ could not be updated with the new password.
Possible Cause: There is a problem with eDirectory.
Action: Check the eDirectory error code to see what the problem is. If you are unable to resolve the error, copy the exception stack trace and report it to Novell Support.

Database cannot be started -- mw.log is an invalid transaction log

Severity: Critical
Possible Cause: The mw.log file mismatches with the existing Management and Monitoring Services database files (mw.db).
Action: Do the following on the site server having the Management and Monitoring Services database:
  1. In sys:\system\mgmtdbs.ncf, search for the following line:

    load SYS:\ZENWORKS\DBENGINE\dbsrv8.nlm -c 99M -x tcpip -tl 300 -ti 0 -gn 50 -m -n 164.99.151.33 SYS:\ZENWORKS\mms\db\mw.db
    

    And include the -F option as shown below:

    load SYS:\ZENWORKS\DBENGINE\dbsrv8.nlm -c 99M -x tcpip -tl 300 -ti 0 -gn 50 -m -n 164.99.151.33 -F SYS:\ZENWORKS\mms\db\mw.db
    
  2. Restart the Management and Monitoring Services database by entering mgmtdbs at the server command prompt.

  3. Shut down the Management and Monitoring Services database by pressing the Q key at the Sybase console.

  4. Remove the -F option from sys:\system\mgmtdbs.ncf, which was added in Step 1.

  5. Restart the Management and Monitoring Services database by entering mgmtdbs at the server command prompt.
